FAQs

How to beat the crowds!

Summer on the coast is the most magical time of the year; temperatures range from 79° to 63°F (or 26° to 17° C). It's more likely to be sunny than not with bluebird skies. But with all good things, bad things must come – flocks of city-dwellers (like us!) descend on the shore which means expensive rates and a general lack of availability.

Here are some things we encourage booking in advance.

Rental Car

Cell phone service can be spotty in many areas. Just like Lyft and Uber coverage. We recommend renting a car over winging it, especially if you’re not staying on site at the Stage Neck Inn or York Harbor Inn. This will also help you get around and explore some of the nearby attractions!

Demand for rental cars is high in the summer, so please do this in advance. Aside from your normal rental car agencies you can use Turo (which is kind of like Airbnb for cars).

Lodging

If you haven’t booked yet, now’s the time! There are limited hotels in the area and many BnBs have minimum stay policies (usually 3 nights) which can make it hard to find lodging if you don’t book in advance. Here are some places that still have availability.

We recommend staying as close to York as possible as coastal traffic can be painstaking this time of year.

The best way to get to York, Maine

From Portland, Maine
York is a short 50min drive from Portland.

From Boston
Boston Logan is the closest international airport to York and a short 1-1.5hr drive if you are renting a car (the most affordable option).

If driving isn’t an option for you, you can book a transfer from Portland or Boston via a taxi service like Hi5.

From New York, New York
York is approximately a 5-5.5hr drive from New York City. You can also fly to Portland where you can rent/hire a car. The latter is by far the quickest way to get there.

Wedding Registry

We’re so excited that you’re joining us in Maine to celebrate our wedding - we don’t need anything else. For those that insist, we are happy to accept contributions to our honeymoon fund, but it is not necessary or expected.
